Emergency Plan & Evacuation Diagrams

Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984Emergency plan development, emergency response procedures, evacuation diagrams, emergency procedures training, and emergency response exercise program implementation are just some of the services offered by Emergency Plan, a HENDRY Group Company, either as individual components or as a complete emergency planning compliance package designed to ensure our clients fully meet their emergency planning obligations under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984, the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996, and AS 3745 - 2010 Planning for emergencies in facilities.

The Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984 and the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996, requires the employer, main contractor, self-AS 3745 - 2002employed person or person having control of the workplace or control of the access to or egress from a workplace, to ensure:

  • Emergency evacuation procedures in the event of fire or other emergency have been developed, are in place and where practicable, clearly and prominently displayed;
  • Where practicable, a diagram showing workplace exits is clearly and prominently displayed;
  • The evacuation procedure is practised at regular intervals at the workplace;
  • Fire prevention measures and maintained control equipment are provided within the workplace;
  • Appropriate training is provided to those persons who would be required to help control or extinguish a fire at the workplace;
  • The means of access to and egress from the workplace are kept free of obstructions at all times to enable all persons to move safely including during emergencies.

In order for the person/s having control of the workplace or control of the access to or egress from a workplace to fulfil these legislative requirements, current 'best business practice' is to comply with the requirements of 'Australian Standard AS 3745 - 2010 Planning for emergencies in facilities'.

Emergency Plan assists clients to fulfil their statutory and common law 'duty of care' responsibilities through the development of emergency plans that document the emergency arrangements for a facility and detail preparedness, prevention and response activities and information pertaining to emergency roles, responsibilities, strategies and systems.

Emergency Response Procedures

Emergency Plan liaises with facility owners, managers and emergency planning committees to develop and document site-specific Emergency Response Procedures required as a component of an emergency plan. The documented procedures are also used to formulate the scope of emergency response procedures training delivered to emergency control organisation members and occupants of a facility.

Evacuation Diagrams

Emergency Plan produces workplace Evacuation Diagrams to display important information such as exits, portable fire fighting equipment, fire/communications panels, evacuation routes, assembly areas, emergency telephone numbers, and brief emergency instructions. Emergency Plan will utilise existing CAD information if it is available, or will undertake site measurements to develop appropriate evacuation diagrams as required by the Occupational Safety & Health Regulations 1996 and AS 3745.
